OVERVIEW
There is a lack of awareness of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and a growing disconnection between Parkinson’s patients and their caretakers, family, and friends.
In order to tackle these issues, I came up with the idea to design an accessible informative game-like experience that turned into a board game. The reasons are - it is family orientated, and allows people to process and remember heavy information in a fun and engaging way.
Side Effects is a Parkinson’s Board game designed as a mode through which it is possible for newly diagnosed PD patients and their families to learn about the disease and start a conversation on heavy often neglected topics.
Side Effects is aiming to have a long- term effect on people, especially family members, and friends of Parkinson’s patients. Its goal is to start a discussion between people with the disease and their loved ones, making them talk about possible ways to make their lives easier and more fulfilling. It aims to create a safe environment for people to be vulnerable and honest about how they feel and how they can support each other.

For this project I designed educational infographic on Parkinson’s disease for Parkinson’s Canada.
This infographic summarizes all the basic information on Parkinson’s disease that newly diagnosed patients and their family members need to know. The information was collected with the help of Parkinson’s Canada and my design development included outside research, design iterations, typeface exploration, refined sketches, etc, in order to build general understanding of the disease through visual means.
